WMF
The Wurttembergische Metallwarenfibrik AG (WMF) was a manufacturing company whose products also include cutlery and flatware, as well as food product machinery manufacturing and metal products manufacturing -- also pottery, china and glassware. The company is located in Geistingen (Steige). Germany. The company began as a small metal-plating factory in 1853. Successive generations built the firm to become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality silver and stainless steel cutlery, cookware and tableware.
The mergers and development of the technical processes employed by WMF are too complex to enumerate here. But the mergers and dynamic growth of the industry took place because of international expansion and the expanding production capacity and product range that the acquisitions offered.
By 1914 WMF was a world leader in supplying antique silver-plated domestic products. In more recent years WMF has produced plastic throw away cups and commercial coffee makers while fine cutlery still remains a strong market.
The company also has manufacturing facilities in Asia as it is 40 times cheaper to manufacture in China than it is in Geislingen, Germany. This product-diversified company seems alive and well with a stake in the global market.
