Wiener Werkstätte (The Vienna Workshops) were founded by architects and artists of the Vienna Secession movement who believed that artists and designers could improve everyone’s lives through improved design, new styles, and faultless craftsmanship. The Vienna Workshop involved many different crafts. Its concept had philosophical roots in the late nineteenth century arts and crafts movement, but inspired with new ideas of design integration with and production. The list of metalworkers in gold and silver in the Werkstatte are many.

Most of the Werkstatte silver are stamped with its trademark and the monogram of the designer as well as the craftsman. By 1905 the Werkstatte had more than a hundred craftsmen among which thirty seven who were acknowledged masters.
