Thomas Jefferys (1719-1771) was a British geographical publisher and engraver, as well as the "Geographer to King George III”. Jefferys was an entrepreneur who quickly responded to the market’s demands for updated world maps and subsequently became the leading map supplier of the mid-18th century. During the Seven Years War (the French and Indian War), Jefferys published maps and atlases of North America, such as the "Map of the Most Inhabited Part of New England" (1755-1794, 5 editions). After the war, Jefferys began printing maps for the government and published large-scaled maps of English counties.
