The origins of the Pompeian Bronze Company, which produced good quality and easily recognizable bronze wares painted and muted polychromed colors, began as Galvano Bronze works foundry of New York City. By the turn of the Century the name was changed to Pompeian Bronze Company. The substance of the figural sculpture produced was whitemetal or spelter that was surfaced and electroplated. Unusual for its time, the Pompeian Bronze Company was a company owned cooperatively by its employees. The company fared well producing decorative objects for about twenty years into the 1920s when it was sold, in 1922 to Marion Bronze Company.
