Antique Kashan Rugs
Kashan is the name of a city in the province of Isfahan, Iran, famous for Persian carpets.
Kashan is a large industrial city and a local seat for industrial carpet weaving. Like Isfahan rugs, Kashan rugs are known for their quality and durability, which combine herati patterns and natural design motifs. Older carpets are the most desirable, especially those produced before the Second World War.
The greatest distinction between old and new rugs is not in the quality of wool, weave or work, but in the production of dyes, the modern version of which are not often as durable. Reds, maroons, purples and greens are the most common colors.
