Chopard Watches
Chopard is the name of a Swiss luxury watches and jewelry manufacturer founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in 1860 and headquartered in Meyrin, Switzerland. Such as many of the families of Swiss watchmakers established in the nineteenth century, part of Chopard’s success as an international company owes inevitably in part to the fact that it is a firm that has always manufactured all parts of their watches and chronometers, from the base movement to all other jewelry and design elements involved. From its arrival on the Geneva scene in the 1920s to when it was purchased in 1963 by the German goldsmith Karl Sheufele, Chopard produced good quality precision time pieces. Under Scheufele, Chopard joined forces with the new management’s enterprises already existing enterprises in Baden-Württemberg, after which point production of both high end jewelry and watches continued in both locations.
Among Chopard’s most popular models of vintage watches are the Imperiale, L. U. C., Happy Diamonds, Happy Sport, Happy Sport Classic, La Strada, Pushkin the Mille Miglia series, which commemorates the Italian classic car rally which the firm has historically sponsored in 1988.
In recent auction highlights a circa 1965 slim 18 karat gold Chopard pocket watch retailed by Kutchinsky, missing its original winder, was expected to fetch between £450 and £600. Vintage Pieces which combine expert watchmaking and precious materials naturally command high prices - towards the higher end of the market, a rare ladies 18 karat yellow gold ruby, seed pearl watch by Chopar was estimate to achieve between $6,000 and $8,000, but fetched over $11,000 at a Fine Art and Jewelry auction at Kodner Galleries of Dania Beach, Florida in December. In recent years, celebrity endorsement from the likes of Bill Clinton, Tom Cruise, Elton John, Laetitia Casta and the Prince of Wales have greatly raised the profile of Chopard watches in advertising and popular culture.
