Cellarettes
A cellarette is a small, portable cabinet or chest, often made of mahogany, and usually supported on legs and lined with partitions made of lead, used in a dining room to hold bottles of wine or alcoholic beverage for convenience of service at the table. Cellarettes were frequently stored either under or beside a sideboard in the dining room. Cellarettes lined with lead provided the additional means of chilling with ice the contents of the bottles. Sides were often fitted with handles and lids had locks and keys. The term Cellarette simply means “little cellar.”
