Maison Cardeilhac was founded in 1804 in Paris by Antoine-Vital Cardheilhac. The firm originally made flatware and tableware. Armand-Edouard took over from his father in the 19th century, followed by his own son Ernest Cardeilhac. Ernest introduced gold and silversmithing to Maison Cardeilhac. Cardeilhac provided silver to Napoleon and the upper crust of Parisian society. The firm rose to prominence during the years between 1829 and 1920. Cardeilhac was bought by Christofle in 1951.

Cardeilhac silver is known for its fine chasing and naturalistic decoration. Ivory, wood and different patinas are sometimes integrated into the work.

Auction highlights include a pair of antique French candelabra made by Ernest Cardeilhac sold by Sotheby’s New York on October 17, 2008 for $134,500, exceeding the expected maximum price of $30,000.
