The Bruichladdich distillery was founded in 1881 on the isle of Islay. Islay is home to eight distilleries and Islay whisky is prized for its peaty, smoky flavor.

The founders of Bruichladdich were the Harvey brothers, members of a family who owned Glasgow distilleries since the 1770s. The distillery was shut down in 1994 but was bought in 2000 and resumed production. The original machinery used by the Harvey brothers is still used to date.

Bruichladdich sources the barley from 23 different Scottish farms, kept separate throughout production. The whisky is non-chill filtered and color free.

Bruichladdich is the only distillery on the island to bottle the whisky on site. Bruichladdich produces 16-, 18-, and 21- year aged unpeated Scotches, a line of peated Scotches called “Port Charlotte” and a third line called Octomore. Auction highlights include a vintage Bruichladdich 20 year old scotch, distilled in 1969 and bottled in 1990 sold by Christie’s London on October 21, 2010 for $1,448.
