A bell lantern is normally used to illuminate a hall or vestibule. This ensemble, including candles or other illumination, involves an inverted glass bell jar suspended on three chains under a glass disk, all of which is hung from a hook or ceiling ornament. This antique apparatus was most popular in the early years of the nineteenth century.
