Audemars Piguet is the name of a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, founded in 1875 by the partnership of inventors Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet in the Joux valley town of Le Brassus. Like many Swiss watchmaking firms from the area, Audemars Piguet began as workshop specializing in both watch parts, as well as fully finished chronometers. In the evolution of the company, Audemars and Piguet, who were boyhood friends, divided the labor between the assembly of the base movements, which Audemars oversaw, and the finishing, marketing and sales of product, for which Piguet was initially responsible. Since the firms rise to success since the late 1880s, the surrounding region and canton of Vaud has been brought a wealth of both industrial and technical knowledge, which is responsible for the employment of a significant sector of manufacturing in western Switzerland.

In addition to retailing its own fine watches, Audemars Piguet has been a leading supplier of watch parts to such international luxury retailers as Cartier, Bulgari and Tiffany & Co. Alongside the wristwatches of Patek Phillipe and Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet watches a privileged place among Switzerland’s finest watchmakers.

In recent auction highlights, a vintage Auemars Piguet automatic watch in 18 karat pink gold achieved £8,125 at a Fine Watches sale at Sotheby’s, held in London in December 2010.
