Ammonites flourished 415 million years ago and evolved throughout the years until they eventually became extinct, along with dinosaurs, in the Cretaceous period. Many different species of Ammonites existed and they were all beautiful, multi-colored creatures with a spiraled shell, (bacrite), which helped to protect them from other sea creatures.

Ammonites are relatives of the octopus, which is visible in their tentacles, which helped them to catch other organisms like crabs and extended out of the large protective shell. The other relatives include the squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus.

A fossilized ammonite sold for $1,300 on January 11, 2011 through Woolley & Wallis Auction house. Another fossil sold February 20, 2011 through Lots Roads Auctions, realizing almost $500 USD.
