Fashion & Textiles
Textiles are felt or spun fibers made into yarn and subsequently netted, looped, knit or woven to make fabrics. The first evidence of textiles comes from the Middle East during the late Stone Age. From ancient times to the present day, methods of textile production have continually evolved, and the choices of textiles available have influenced how people carried their possessions, clothed themselves, and decorated their surroundings.
Fashion refers to current trends in look and dress. Although tailors and dressmakers were no doubt responsible for many innovations, the history of modern fashion design it typically thought to date from 1858, when the English-born Charles Frederick Worth opened the first true haute couture house in Paris. Today the global clothing and apparel industry accounts for an estimated $182 billion in sales annually.
