Description: Frank Stick (American 1884-1966) oil on canvas of hunting dog in springtime landscape. Titled on canvas lower center, "Champion JoJo." Signed and dated lower right. Original giltwood frame. Sight: 28" H x 29-1/2" W. Frame: 33-1/2" H x 35-3/4" H. Brass plate: "Champion Jersey JoJo, Manitoba 1920." Note: Frank Leonard Stick is best known for his outdoor themed paintings, especially those relating to hunting and fishing. He studied under Howard Pyle in Wilmington, DE and alongside N.C.Wyeth and Frank E. Schoonover. His illustrations have appeared in "Sports Afield", "Field and Stream", "Collier's", "The Saturday Evening Post", and other magazines.
Condition Report: Overall very good condition. Slight slack in canvas. One and half inch clean tear in canvas located in center above dog's back. Blacklighting does not indicate any repair or restoration.

Description: Tennessee History of Bird Dog Training Archive including the book "Field Trial Records of Dogs in America 1874 - 1907 by Major J.M. Taylor" where David E. Rose is mentioned several times. Much of the archive is comprised of correspondence between David (Dave) E. Rose and the many numerous clients whose dogs he trained as well as receipts and a red leather ledger showing the monetary exchanges between himself and his clients. He also prepared and entered dogs into various competitive field trials and the archive includes letterhead from Hobart Ames, developer of the Hobart Ames Plantation in Grand Junction, TN, the Continental Field Trial Club, Manitoba Field Trials Club, and the United States Field Trial Club. Additionally included are six (6) stereoviews depicting dogs competing in the U. S. Field Trials, three (3) of the stereoviews feature D. E. Rose the original archive collector. Most of the letters, photos and receipts date from this paperwork from 1896 to around 1907. Provenance: David or Dave E. Rose was a prominent trainer and handler of bird dogs but also ran a livery, feed and sale stable business in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, called Rose & Acklin. All of these items, with the exception of the book, are from his estate. Note: A letter titled "Report on the General State of the Church" will be included with the lot.
Condition Report: Book in fair condition, some fading to cover and some staining. Most corrospondance with folds, wear and toning.

Condition Report: Condition consistent with age and use. Small chip on the underside of the rim on the lid. Approximately 1" section on the back of one dragon's head has been broken and repaired. The front and rear right legs on the same dragon handle have been repaired where the feet meet the legs. Similar repair on the front right leg of the other dragon handle.
