Evidemment, tout cela représente un grand effort d'abord par l'architecture qu'un tableau doit comporter et ensuite par le choix des couleurs en rapport avec le climat poétique qu'on veut y introduire » (Paul Delvaux, le 24 mai 1983). Après des études à l'Académie Royale des Beaux-arts de Bruxelles, il réalise des tableaux d'esprit post-impressionniste puis expressionniste influencés notamment par James Ensor, qu'il découvre lors de sa rétrospective organisée en 1929 à Bruxelles. Très critique dans un premier temps à l'encontre des surréalistes, il change d'avis progressivement notamment au contact de Magritte et surtout de Giorgio de Chirico, impressionné par le mystère qui se dégage de leurs peintures. Il participe en 1934 à l'exposition « Minotaure » au Palais Royal des Beaux-arts de Bruxelles aux côtés de Dali, Magritte ou de Chirico. « Le Paravent » et « Le Palais en ruine », datant de 1935 sont très influencés par ce courant artistique. Progressivement, il se détache de ces influences extérieures et aborde de grandes compositions où l'architecture prend une place importante et dans laquelle l'artiste installe le personnage clé de son OEuvre : la Femme. Plus tard, il introduit le squelette, non comme une représentation macabre mais comme un sujet réel et expressif auquel il donne vie. Il fait revivre une certaine époque révolue, celle de son enfance, celle des gares et des trains, alors si omniprésents dans la société. Il eut un constant intérêt pour l'Histoire et l'Architecture gréco-romaines qu'il n'a cessé de transposer dans ses compositions avec une exactitude surprenante. Inlassablement, il multiplie les esquisses, dessins et études indispensables à la réalisation finale: la Peinture. La lumière est étudiée de manière très attentive et renforce le mystère et la poésie de l'oeuvre par le biais d'un personnage ou d'une lampe, issus d'une autre époque. « ...Paul Delvaux est un peintre surréaliste qui atteint ce que d'autres surréalistes ont parfois du mal à atteindre, une dimension de l'Etre du rêve. C'est pourquoi Delvaux est en même temps éloigné du Surréalisme. Delvaux crée des rêves non-construits qui ne sont pas issus du monde du non-rêve mais qui « sont » des rêves tout court. Les rêves de Delvaux sont des « rêves clairs » et non flous. Le choix d'éléments chez Delvaux est certes incohérent, mais l'ensemble du tableau ne produit pas l'impression d'un environnement « chaotique ». Au contraire, tout semble ordonné et quasiment « logique »... Disons que le monde de Delvaux est un monde « mystico-scientifique. Paradoxalement, cette étrangeté nous est familière parce que nous la reconnaissons dans nos propres rêves. C'est la superposition de l'étrangeté et de la familiarité qui crée la « logique jouée » que nous avons désignée comme une logique de rêve. Description: Early Apollo Block I control panel, #25, measuring 20.25 x 13.5, with 5 rows of switches and circuit breakers for Post Landing systems, the Stabilization and Control System, and propulsion systems. Panel has three NASA S & ID tags attached to it, and states "Panel Assy #25, S/N AAF0077," and bears multiple inspection stamps and checks from 1966. Panel also retains its four heavy connectors. This panel would have been mounted to the left of the commander for use throughout the flight and after splashdown. A similar panel was mounted in the Apollo 1 spacecraft at the time of its fire on January 27, 1967. In fine condition.This is the same type of panel used by NASA during the mid-1960s in preparation for the Apollo 1 mission, which claimed the lives of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee in 1967. North American Aviation discontinued the Block I design after the accident as NASA concentrated on the Block II design for lunar missions.

Description: Picket slide rule from the personal collection of Apollo 17 CMP Ron Evans, certified by his widow Janet Evans and Novaspace as flown to the Moon. Bright yellow Picket Inc. model N600-ES slide rule measures 6 x 1 and has 22 five-inch scales. In very fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Novaspace, offered as part of Ron Evans Garage Sale, signed by Evans's widow Janet, stating the rule is from Evans's personal collection. Also accompanied by a copy of a NASA document from the recovery team on the USS Ticonderoga with the subject line "Personal Items Retained by Apollo 17 Flight crew." The Evans items on the list are identical to the other items that were sold at the same time as this slide rule in the Novaspace Ron Evans Garage Sale. Though there is no exact identification number to confirm, it seems very likely that Ron Evans kept all 15 or so items together labeled as his flown personal items, and the entire collection was later consigned to Novaspace in its entirety, supported as flown by his wife. A similar slide rule, flown on Apollo 11 by Buzz Aldrin sold in 2007 for over $77,000. During the Apollo missions, most of the critical calculations were done on either the on-board computer or the immense computers back on earth at Mission Control. The astronauts carried a slide rule for making more routine calculations or in case of emergency. This particular model was popular among engineers and scientists, and it was a simple piece of equipment which needed no modification to be taken into space. Picket's slide rules were used on five of the Apollo missions and became a very strong marketing point for the company. The Apollo 17 mission was the final mission slide rules were used on, as they were replaced by more powerful pocket calculators in time for the Apollo-Soyuz mission. A wonderful, and crucial, flown tool from man's last mission to the moon.
