Description: Civil War Navy Officer's Jacket and Belt The 1864 U. S. Navy Regulations allowed officers to wear a short jacket such as this one as "service dress." The navy blue/black wool garment has a roll over collar and is lined with the appropriate, "black silk serge," nicely quilted. Two pockets are in the breast. The sleeves feature the typical Civil War era flared elbows and narrow cuffs and are lined in white cotton with thin red striping. The collar and front edges are edged in narrow black tape. There are two rows of nine Navy officers buttons on each side, backmarked "Scovill Mfg. Co." Condition is excellent with no mothing and inconsequential wear. The jacket is accompanied by a fine naval officers sword belt having a high-relief interlocking regulation belt plate depicting an eagle over an anchor surrounded by a circle of stars. The belt is complete, strong and supple and has both suspensory straps highlighted by large studs bearing an attractive "star" design. Altogether a scarce and wonderful set that would be hard to match for quality.

Description: The Swan Egg was ordered in 1906 by Tsar Nicholas II, the egg was presented to the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna on Easter that year for her 40th wedding anniversary. Design The egg was made of mauve enamel, with gold trim. On the exterior is a twisted ribbon trellis design of rose-cut diamonds, as well as a portrait diamond on the top inscribed "1906". Another portrait diamond on the other end once held the Imperial monograph. The "surprise" that came inside the egg is a miniature gold and silver swan on a "lake" of aquamarine. By winding a gear beneath one of the wings, the swan's mechanical neck and wings move. Description: History: Carved from a block of milky agate, mounted on a gold enameled base, egg was closely modeled after an seventeenth-century box by Le Roy, Germany. A highly intriguing hypothesis has recently been advanced by Christopher Forbes, namely that the Resurrection Egg is in fact the surprise originally contained in the Renaissance Egg. This would account for its being shown in the same showcase at the 1902 exhibition, where surprises have been separated from their eggs. Moreover, style and coloring of both objects are virtually identical and the size of the Resurrection Egg perfectly fits the curvature of the egg. 1930 one of the ten Imperial Eggs sold by the Antikvariat in Moscow to the Hammer Galleries, New York. 1965 Sold by A La Vieille Russie, to Malcolm Forbes, the Forbes Magazine Collection, New York. He served with the 5th Cavalry during the Mexican Punitive Expedition, and was a runner with the First Division in World War I. He received many medals and awards, and was a well-known boxer during the Occupation.
