Description: Non-regulation officer's Civil War era sword model of 1850 showing iron pierced guard with Eagle and fancy etched blade with Schulyer, Hartley and Graham, New York agent markings. The reverse of the ricasso shows a W. Clauberg, Solingen andmarked with iron proof. The blade is very finely etched with scrolls, stand of arms and a U.S. with inscription panel etched 8 ½" from the tip in front of the standard etching and approximately 5" in length the inscription reads "LT. A. Hiram,Plummer from C. A. 155th Ind. (Indiana) Vols". The blade is in fine to near excellent condition showing most of the original polish with frosty etching just beginning minor normal age and the etched panel is absolutely authentic. The scabbard and hilt are also very good plus to near fine and a period sword knot is included. The scabbard shows a couple of minor dings, dents and etc. From the estate of Mel Kessen. Description: U.S. Model 1850 staff and field officer's sword by Ames with government inspection stamps J. H. and 1861 dated. The sword has had two brass plaques sweated to the scabbard long ago that are engraved General Vandever's staff and field working sword, and U.S. inspectors stamped. This exact sword was purchased by well-known old time collector Mel Kessen from the heirs of Major General William Vandever who lived in California. Mr. Kessen also purchased an ornate presentation sword with alarge group of Civil War artifacts belonging to Vandever. Kessen kept this 1850 because he felt the General had used it in the Civil War as a working sword and sold the entire remainder of the ensemble including the presentation sword for aprice he could not refuse at the Las Vegas show approx. 10 years ago. The scabbard shows Ames manufacture marks and the sword is in good condition showing some normal wear and use but is untouched and very good overall. General Vandeverhad a great war record and he was appointed Indian inspector by Pres. Grant in the 1870's. Description: French Napoleonic style officers sword with blued and gilt blade retaining its original scabbard and in very good plus condition. There is a makers mark beneath the guard which we cannot quite make out but may be a K. and K. The blade measures 27¾" and the sword is 32 ½" overall. The blade measures nearly 1" at the widest part near the ricasso. The rear 9 ¼" of the blade is blued and gilted and approximately 75% remains. There is some scattered light rust and erosion but verygood overall with most of its bright polish and blue. The hilt shows most of its original gold plate aging nicely and the checkered black hard wood grip scales are very good plus. The scabbard is also good to very good shows considerable goldgilt but is missing its tip. An attractive and classic French Empire sword. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.

Description: Japanese World War II era Officer's sword in traditional samurai style with military mountings and makers signed on the tang with Arsenal stamp also. The blade is in good to very good condition showing a bumpy temper line similar to the earlier moon over Fuji style. There is some light erosion towards the forward 12" but still at least very good plus to near fine and would clean nicely. The mounts are in good to very good condition and there is a leather covering for the scabbard which is black lacquer beneath. The blade measures 25 ½" along the cutting edge and the sword is 37" overall. There is a blue and brown woven cord attached probably for Marine. A silk carrying bag is included which is Japanese made and of thecorrect period from one of San Diego's oldest collectors estate who purchased directly from GI's returning from World War II and who collected only until the 1960s. The blade is in very good plus to near fine condition showing one minor nick at the edge and some slight losses of finish. The scabbard shows erosion andpitting but is generally good with only a couple of minor dents. The hilt shows a couple of hits and normal aging. The grip is good to very good Springfield Armory made only a few models of swords and they are scarce. Est.: $250-$500

Cover was locally dropped, but undeliverable and bears Hawaiian Advertised backstamp, purple Dead Letter Office double ring mark and double straightline 'Pas Reclame/Unclaimed' purple handstamp with ornament, Meyer-Harris 751, 754, and 767, respectively. Franked with 1¢ yellow stamp. Clear and solid strikes. Rare combo of markings, especially on illustrated advertising cover.
