From the "O" Series (in which every subject's name ends in the letter "o.")Seymour Chwast was born in New York, and studied illustration and graphic design at The Cooper Union. Paul Klee and Georges Rouault were some of his formative influences. The style he developed, with thick bold outlines, had a visual impact on the world contemporary art, design, and advertising. He founded Push Pin Studios to bring a new vitality to graphic design, with an emphasis on hand drawn illustration. His art found its way into posters, packaging, record-sleeves, magazines and children's books. His work has been exhibited in many fine institutions. Chwast and his studio were honored at the Louvre in Paris in a retrospective exhibition. His posters are in the permanent collection of New York s Museum of Modern Art, The Cooper-Hewitt Museum of The Smithsonian Institution, and The Library of Congress.
