Description: Frank Gehry, for Tiffany & Co. .925 standard silver brooch, the sterling silver brooch is of rectangular form, and is reminiscent of Gehry's architectural sketches. This single edition piece is signed to the recto lower left, and marked Tiffany & Co. (C) Gehry 925 to the verso. length: 2 7/8 in. (7.5 cm) All proceeds benefit the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation Provenance: Donated to the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation directly from Tiffany & Co. Literature: Isenberg, Barbara. Conversations with Frank Gehry. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2009. pp 192-193 Other Notes: The Gehry Tiffany line came about indirectly, when Gehry was conversing with women at a dinner party. In Conversations with Frank Gehry, Gehry recounts, "You know, I have this idea that I want to take the floor plan of Bilbao, make it the size of a brooch, and fill it with diamonds." A few years later the so-called Bilbao-on-a-brooch idea, according to Gehry, had turned into Bilbao, Disney Hall and a few others. With assistance from connections in the diamond business, Tiffany was contacted and with interest assigned nine designers to work with Gehry. Today the Gehry Line can be found in numerous Tiffany stores worldwide and includes the Fish, Hearts, Leaves, Orchid, Star, Morph and Torque collections. This particular brooch however is one of a kind.
