Description: Rare Southern stoneware face jug, possibly by John Wesley Bell of Barrow County, Georgia Northern Georgia, circa 1890-1900 Albany glazed with sculpted exaggerated features having rock eyes and teeth behind red-painted lips, with inscription "Whiskey" at forehead, attributed to Barrow County, Georgia. H8 3/4" W8 D8 1/4" Provenance: South Carolina private collection. Other Notes: This face jug was found in a Winder, Georgia tavern about twenty years ago and was one of a pair that hung on the wall above the front entrance. They were said to have been made at a nearby pottery operation, possibly by John Wesley Bell of Barrow County, Georgia.

Condition Report: Losses to clay around each eye with inherent firing and glaze flaws consistent with age.
