Tangent rear sight, and fixed front sight. Bore is bright and clean, and bluing is 95%, with minor holster wear to muzzle, and edge wear to protruding surfaces. Grips are excellent, with sharp checkering. Magazine shows faint proof mark on wood base. Gun is accompanied by holster, complete with strap, tool, and cleaning rod. Holster is maker marked J. E. Description: Colt Ace .22 LR pistol, with Colt Archive letter documenting the gun as part of a 50 piece shipment to the US Coast Guard, Curtis Bay, Maryland on June 1st 1936. At that time, the Coast Guard was instrumental in Roosevelt's program to train inept Treasury agents in firearms proficiency and accuracy, whish lasted from 1934 to 1940. During this period. a total of 200 Ace pistols, as well as other training arms for the program were procured through the Curtis Bay Coast Guard Ordinance Depot. (Wells, 1994, "Training Treasury 1934-1940"). Gun is marked on the right side of the slide "COLT" and ".22 LONG / RIFLE" flanking the "ACE" in a diamond logo. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line address and patent dates 1897-1913. Adjustable target rear sight and half moon front sight. "VP" in triangle on left side of trigger guard, with "60" marked on right. Bore is bright and clean. Original blue finish is 99% plus, with no visible detractions. Checkered walnut grips are excellent and sharp. Magazine is original two tone, marked on the base "COLT" and "22 L.R" along with the "ACE" in a diamond logo. One additional after market magazine is included as well. Exceptionally excellent example of an important Pre-War Colt Ace, in excellent condition. Caliber: .22LR Serial #: 6440
