In August 1943 Riseley's aircraft was hit by flak and lost one engine but he pressed on to bomb target the marshalling yards at Valenciennes. On the return flight they were shot down in the Pas de Calais area. Riseley evaded capture and eventually got away by fishing boat and reached Penzance on 25 October 1943. He rejoined the squadron. Riseley's DSO was made both for his carrying on to bomb his target and for his escape and evading capture to eventually get home. Good condition
