Description: This Winchester Model 1873 .22 rimfire rifle was manufactured in 1899. The rifle has the distinctive receiver with no loading gate, full octagon barrel, walnut forearm and stock with crescent steel buttplate. The barrel is fitted with a replacement iron, dove-tail front sight and a replacement sporting style rear sight. The receiver has the integral dust cover rib and dust cover with serrated edges. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line Winchester legend ahead of the rear sight and the caliber "22 LONG." behind it. "MODEL 1873" is roll-stamped on the upper receiver tang with foliate designs on either side of the model designation. "22CALIBER/LONG" is inscribed on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. The serial number, "550243B", is stamped on the lower tang behind the loading lever latch. Introduced in 1884, the Winchester Model 1873 .22 rimfire rifle was the first .22 caliber repeating rifle manufactured in the United States.

Condition: Partially refinished. The barrel and magazine tube has cold blue applied overall. The rifle has no significant pitting, but there are scattered minor dents on the top of the barrel and the sides of the once casehardened receiver, which is now a crisp silver gray patina. There are a series of small punch-marks around the edge of the dust cover. The dust cover has a darker patina than the other components and is a replacement. The front sight is a period replacement and the rear sight appears to be a recent replacement. The markings on the barrel and receiver are clear. The stock has been heavily sanded and refinished; the forearm is an oversized replacement.
