Notes: This painting appears to be a variation of a similar larger work, Italian Landscape (30 1/4 x 25 3/8 in., Detroit Institute of Arts), which is referenced as catalogue number 133 in Edgar P. Richardson’s Washington Allston, (University of Chicago Press, 1948) and dated circa 1830. The size may suggest that Landscape may be a study for the larger Italian Landscape.
