596. JOHN QUINCY ADAMS WARD (1830-1910) American sculptor who is most familiar for his colossal standing statue of George Washington (illustration) on the steps of Federal Hall on Wall Street (1882). Good lot of two A.L.S.'s, 4pp. total, 8vo., New York, 1877 and 1909, the 1877 letter sending photographs of one of the paintings done by his brother Edgar Ward and a portrait, the 1909 letter reading in part: "...Mrs. Ward called today...to ascertain if the model of the façade of the Stock Exchange Building and pediment could be had also...If you could arrange all this for me, I would be very much obliged...I have abandoned the idea of getting the plaster model of the [Henry Ward] Beecher statue. It would be too expensive..." Old hinge repairs to one letter not affecting text, a few clean fold splits; generally very good. $200-300
