4 o (279 x 185 mm). 19th-century quarter morocco and boards (light rubbing to edges). Provenance: Gustave Doré (1832-1883), (presentation inscription by Richard Wagner on title).

PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY RICHARD WAGNER TO GUSTAVE DORE in the year of the first revised Paris production: "À Gustave Doré son admirateur le plus sincère Richard Wagner." Wagner meet Doré during a visit to Paris in 1860. Doré admired Wagner's work, and intended to illustrated his "Ring der Nibelungen." The above presentation copy is mentioned and illustrated in Ernst Newman The Life of Richard Wagner. -- [Tipped in:] Autograph letter signed by Doré, mentioning Wagner.
