signed and dated lower right P. Faes: 1782 oil on panel The present still life is a particularly fine example of Faes' impressive technique. He followed in the great tradition of Dutch still life painting that had developed in the previous century and was especially influenced by the works of Jan van Huysum (1682-1749). Surprisingly few details of his life are known. He studied at the academy in Antwerp and in 1791 became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke. He died in Antwerp in 1814.
