These two gentleman of German manufacture were originally displayed in a Philadelphia window at the turn of the century. Obviously the intent was to catch the eye of a passerby, drawing attention to the store and the goods it sold. This was often a common ploy by shop keepers of that time period. Elaborately created and painted in vibrant colors, their comical faces and attire would certainly draw attention to that shop. These two items remained for generations in the family of that shop keeper and in 1957 were given to the Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia, PA. These items along with many other pieces were de-accessioned some time in the past few years. The first gentleman; taller in stature has a nodding upper torso with bulging eyes, a brownie like physique and a gaping open mouth. His partner in crime is short and stout with a nodding head, lower right leg and both arms from the elbow nodding too. Most likely this fellow had something in each hand, which has long since gone. It is amazing due to the frailty of these two fellows that they are still in remarkable condition, but in need of some minor repairs. They are in untouched, as found condition and approximately 100+ years old. SIZE: 21" and 17" respectively. CONDITION: The tall fellow has some flaking to his pants, an amateur reglue of his boots to the base, a small sliver of wood is missing and a chip to the papier mache to his nose and poncho. His partner is missing some facial hair, damage and regluing to left arm and regluing at base of left foot. 1-9800
