Late 18th Century British flintlock pistol associated with the XIX Light Dragoons. The XIX Light Dragoons were raised by Sir John Burgoyne as the XXIII Regiment of the Light Dragoons on September 24, 1781. The Regiment served in India (1782-1806). In 1802 it was commanded by Colonel Arthur Wellsey (later the Duke of Wellington). The Regiment was sent to America in 1812 for the war. The barrel is unmarked. The lock plate is marked "TOWER" behind the hammer and the "crown/gr" royal cypher and "crown/arrow" property mark are stamped in front of the hammer. The bottom of the trigger guard is marked "XIX / LD / B / 36". The black English walnut stock has a large brass butt cap and brass furniture. Mahogany ramrod with contrasting swollen tip.
