Description: (TOBACCO--CIGARS.) American Lithographic Co. Massive archive of printer's progressive proofs of cigar labels. Archive consists of over 500 folders, each folder representing successive proofs for a given label. Most folders have inked notes indicating the number of stones used, the colors, the location of the stones, and the date when they were ground flat. All appear to be from the American Lithographic Co. of New York. New York, principally first decade 20th century

Notes: Each folder contains the series of proofs pulled for each label, with successive proofs between. Most labels required 6 or more stones. Most are for inner labels on boxes, but some folders contain additional pulls for outer and side labels. Even a few bands are included. Taken together, there are many thousands of labels in various states. Should be seen.
