Other Notes: In 1879, Thomas Hovenden spent most of his time at the Artists Colony in Pont-Aven, France. Thomas Eakins, a good friend of Hovenden, possibly visited the colony to see his friends and compatriots. In 1886, Hovenden replaced Eakins as Professor of Paintings and Drawings at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, as Eakins was asked to resign over a dispute regarding the use of nude models.
