Condition: Craquelure.
Note: Thomas Birch was born in England in 1779. His father, William Russell Birch, was an engraver and painter of enamel miniatures; together they immigrated to the United States in 1794 and worked in Philadelphia. In the 1830s Thomas began painting landscapes. He also designed coins for the U.S. Mint and became highly influential at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
