Provenance: Watercolours and Drawings by Thomas Allom; Christie's, London, 18 November 1985, lot 87 (sold £900 to the present owner).
Notes: Allom was one of the most prolific producers of designs for travel and topographical illustrations of his day. This present watercolour was almost certainly executed before the publication of Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, in 1840.
