Folio, 17th-century gilt-panelled red morocco, front Joint restored and rubbed, recased; endpapers renewed; margins trimmed affecting sidenotes and some head- or direction-lines, paper corrosion in upper inner corner of opening leaves affecting some text, occasional soiling and stains, scattered marginal repairs, including facsimile replacement of excised portion of text on 2LS. [London]: Richard Grafton & Edward Whitchurch, 1539 E2000-3000 New Testament only from the first edition of the 'Great Bible, " prepared by Miles Coverdale under the patronage of Thomas Cromwell, who as the King's vice-regent in ecclesiastical matters issued an injunction requiring it to be placed in all parish churches for public reading.
