We are grateful to Everett Fahy for identifying this panel to be a work by Spinello Aretino. He has also identified the other panels with which it made up the predella for a large altarpiece. These include Christ Washing the Disciples' Feet, Descent of the Holy Ghost, and Agony in the Garden. (1) All three of these were recently shown together at the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, in the exhibition Geschichten auf Gold: Bilderzählungen in der frühren italienischen Malerei (see exhibition catalogue, 2005, pp. 200-205, reproduced).
