In his mission to articulate the situations of blacks in modern America, Dave Hammons mostly works with found materials he gathers from Harlem streets and lots, leveraging the inherent or assumed cultural properties of these objects to reinforce his message. In the present work, he has modified this strategy by using Kool-Aid, an inexpensive soft drink preparation, as part of the medium.
