Description: Two Manuscript receipts for services rendered in the return of a run-away slave named Cyrus, the first a payment for jail fees and advertising, the second for fees paid to the City Council and city marshall. Each one page, oblong small 8o; first docketed on verso. Columbus, GA, 21 November and 09 December 1848

Notes: The closeness of the dates on these receipts suggests that they both refer to a single escape. Cyrus appears to have run away from the plantation of his Alabama master, Colonel E. Pharr. He was captured in Georgia and the fees were paid to his jailer and the legal authorities who heard the case.
