Description: Royal National Institute For The Preservation Of Life From Shipwreck silver medal, type 1, engraved (Dennis Cronen), complete with silver ring suspension. Minor edge bruising, very fine. 1 E220-250 21 December 1825: When the vessel Britannia was wrecked in Ballycotton Bay, Co. Cork, Ireland, her Master, who was the only survivor, lashed himself to a rock. Seven hours later, cold and exhausted, he was rescued by Mr Cronen who, in spite of the sea conditions, helped the survivor ashore and up a high cliff and then accommodated him for four days. Voted 1 February 1826
