Provenance: Private Collection, Vic Commissioned from the artist at the pensioner unit, Warmun in early 1995 Sold with original source documentation In the Krill Krill ceremony created by Rover Thomas and Paddy Jaminji in the late 1970's, the spirit of the dead woman passes by Pompeii Pillar where the Mook Mook Owl and her baby live in a cave at the Blue Tongue Lizard Site. The pillar can be seen from the Halls Creek-Kununurra road, near the turnoff to the Argyle Diamond Mine. The cave site is called Tunnel Creek. In this major work created by the artist in Warmun during 1995 the road to Kununurra and the turnoff to the mine are depicted. The cave is dominated by Pompei Pillar and the Rocks nearby which represent the eggs of the mythical Owl mother. Owls are said to be associated with birth and death amongst Gija people. This was a particularly poignant place for Rover as his son was killed in a car accident near here.
