McDonough Museum of Art, Inaugural Exhibition, Oct. 1991-May 1992, p. 30On a 1921 photograph of the painting, Vonnoh dated the canvas circa 1916 and commented: "Pleasant Valley/Lyme Conn./painted 4 or 5 years ago./a pastoral Landscape/and a poets day/one could but reflect/at least, some of the/charm of such a time/and place - -/Robert Vonnoh." This photograph and the original invoice from M. A. Newhouse and Son accompany the lot.
