oil on artist's board, signed at lower right "Robert Benney," inscribed on the verso "Mischa Elman / R.C.A. Victor / J. Walter Thompson / Arthur Blomquist - Art Director" and with Benney's New York studio address, presented in a later gilt wood frame. A famed child prodigy on the violin, Mischa Elman began performing with the Colonne Orchestra while still a boy. His first performance in the United States was at Carnegie Hall in 1908 and he and his family settled in New York permanently not long thereafter.
