NOTE

Accused of racism by a colleague while working at the University of California, Davis, Robert Arneson created a series of works in the early 1990s that explored racial prejudices, specifically toward African Americans. The mask shown here not only canveys these ideas, but also marks the transition into his next body of work, an exhibition of self-portrait masks.
