This lever activated falling block single shot rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The heavy weight 30" part octagon barrel is fitted with a beach combination folding front sight, adjustable rear sporting sight and a tang mounted mid range peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.", the lower right side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT. / OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The barrel under the forearm is marked (starting at the breech) "17669", 32.40 B." and "8037", and the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm is marked "32.40 B.". Blue barrel, breechblock, hammer and trigger, and casehardened action, lever and trigger guard with a modified replacement brass buttplate. The buttplate was modified by welding or brazing extensions on the heel and toe for a Swiss style appearance. Mounted with a smooth forearm with an ebony forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock.
