Condition: On cradled masonite. Small loss in upper left corner. Three small minor losses on stairs at center. Surface bloom on her knee and few spots to the left; few spots on stair below older woman as well. UV: FIne.

Notes: A letter from Norman Sasowsky, the recognized authority on Reginald Marsh, authenticating the painting will accompany the lot. In this letter, Mr. Sasowsky mentions that Marsh''s personal records refer to the painting as "500,000 Czechs on Nazi Border," though the newspaper headline in the work says "Nazi Front." Marsh''s records indicate that the painting, recorded as #102 and painted between May 19 and November 8 of 1938, was sold to an unnamed purchaser in Alabama. Mr. Sasowsky states, "The quality of the painting is high and it is an excellent example of Marsh in this medium as a painter in the late ''30''s, probably his most important era."
