Extremely Rare Redware Covered Wagon Bank, Pennsylvania origin, 19th century, large-sized, hand-modeled bank in the form of a covered wagon resting on four wheels with detailed rim and spokes. Wagon features incised accents to each end and a top fashioned to resemble a canvas covering. Bank is seated on an oval base embellished with an incised dot border and applied coleslaw shrubs. Slot carved into one end of wagon. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Exceptional size and form. This bank is the only example of a conestoga wagon we are aware of. Provenance: Christie's Sale of the Seamen's Bank Collection, March 13, 1991. Wagon reglued to base. Damage to hitch on one end of wagon. Wear to top edge of wagon on both sides. H 5 3/4" ; Length 5 1/4".
