Manufactured in 1906, this is 1 of only about 15 all nickel plated, special order Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring carbines believed to exist. The only surface not nickel plated is the brass blade front sight. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address and 1884 patent date followed by the Winchester proof mark. Behind the rear sight is marked "44 W.C.F." and the top of the receiver ring is marked with the Winchester proof. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1892 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK" and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame. These "fancy finished" arms, (gold, silver or nickel plated) as they were often called, were available by special order only. Very few buyers wanted to wait the weeks or even months for it to be delivered when a standard Winchester could be bought right away at the local retail store. Blade front sight and adjustable carbine rear sight graduated to 200 yards (bar missing), full magazine, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left side of the receiver and smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum letter verifies the serial number, carbine configuration, 44 caliber, full nickel finish and lists a shipping date of 12-7-7, (writer assumes 1907). Also the accompanying Winchester factory letter verifies the serial number, carbine configuration, 44 caliber, full nickel finish and that it was received in the warehouse on August 30, 1907 and shipped on order number 123856 on December 7, 1907.
