PRESIDENT MILLARD FILLMORE. 7 ¼ x 5 ¼- inch salted paper print, hand-cut oval. Fillmore was Vice President under Zachary Taylor. At Taylor's death he became the 13th U.S. President. He supported the cause of slavery. This is a period copy of a daguerreotype supposedly by Southworth and Hawes (Pfister, "Facing the Light" Plate 85.) It appears to differ very slightly from that image. The print is glued to brown paper, and shows slight handling. [3-]
