Pratt & Letchworth cast iron Flying Artillery with Caisson, circa 1895, featuring two teams of various color horses, two are mounted with soldiers resplendent in full dress uniforms including plumed helmets, dark blue jackets, red striped light blue pants, drawing a limber wagon finished in dark green with red piping and accents, fitted with hinged ammunition seat with two articulated cross-armed soldiers drawing a caisson finished in matching dark green with raised decoration in red and a black cannon, (excellent plus, colors are as they were designed, strong and bold). length 33in. (83.8cm.) This magnificent cast iron toy was patented in 1883 and again in November, 1885. Perhaps the grandest of the animal drawn cast iron toys it was the pride of the illustrious Pratt & Letchworth line. Because of its multiple intricate parts very few of these toys have survived. This toy is illustrated on page 231 of The Toy Collector by Louis Hertz.
