Pieter Brueghel d. Ä. (1525 Eindhoven - 1569 Brüssel). Nach - Christus und zwei Jünger auf dem Weg nach Emmaus. 1571 Engraving by Philip Galle. New Hollstein 173 I (of II). Bastelaer 113. Signed, dated and inscribed on the plate. Excellent impression on laid paper (with watermark 'Gothic P') with narrow margins, lower margin trimmed to the platemark. 24,3 x 19,3 cm (9,5 x 7,5 in), the full sheet. With a stamp of an unklnown collector on verso (not in Lugt)Padded in upper margin. With minimal skinned patches in places. Left margin padded in former times. With isolated faint brown stains and a tiny split in right centre, else in good condition. [CM].
