Ce dessin est une esquisse préparatoire pour la fresque ornant le mur de l'escalier du préfet de l'Hôtel de Ville de Paris que Puvis de Chavannes exécuta entre 1892 et 1894.

The present work is a preparatory study for the staircase mural Puvis de Chavannes executed for the Paris Town Hall between 1892-94.
